Swimming competition record detailed in Olympic
The gold medal in the men's 4x100m medley relay event was
won by the USA team (Ryan Murphy, Michael Andrew, Caeleb Dressel, Zach Apple)
who finished the event in 3: 26.78 minutes. It set a new world record, breaking
the 2009 record set by Aaron Peirsol, Eric Shanteau, Michael Phelps, and David
Walters in the United States (3: 27.28).
The Great Britain team (Luke Greenbank, Adam Peaty, James
Guy and Duncan Scott) won the silver medal in 3: 27.51 minutes, while the
Italian team (Thomas Ceccon, Nicolò Martinenghi, Federico Burdisso and
Alessandro Miress: 3i) He finished the race in 29.17 and won the bronze medal.
Caeleb Dressel of the United States won the gold medal,
setting a new Olympic record in the men's 50m freestyle. With a time of 21.07
seconds, Caeleb broke the 2008 record set by César Cielo of Brazil (21.30) in
2008, and César still holds the world record (20.91) in this event. Caeleb has
so far won five gold medals at this year's Olympics.
Florent Manaudou of France won the silver medal in 21.55
seconds and Bruno Fratus of Brazil won the bronze medal in 21.57 seconds.
Emma McKeon of Australia won the gold medal in the women's
50m freestyle with a new Olympic record of 23.81 seconds.
The Olympic record (24.05) was set by Ranomi Kromowidjojo of
the Netherlands in 2012 before the preliminary round of the event, and Emma
broke it with a time of 24.02 seconds in the first round in which she competed.
In the semi-finals that followed, Emma broke her Olympic
record by finishing in 24.00 seconds.
Sweden's Sarah Sjöström won the silver medal in 24.07
seconds, setting a world record (23.67). Pernille Blume of Denmark won the
bronze medal with a time of 24.21 seconds.
The Australian team (Kaylee McKeown, Chelsea Hodges, Emma
McKeon and Cate Campbell) won the gold medal in the women's 4 × 100m medley
relay event with a new Olympic record. With a time of 3: 51.60 minutes, they
broke the 2012 record set by the United States team (3: 52.05).
The silver medal went to the United States (Regan Smith,
Lydia Jacoby, Torri Huske and Abbey Weitzeil) in 3: 51.73 minutes, with Canada
(Kylie Masse, Sydney Pickrem, Maggie) finishing in 3: 52.60 minutes. Mac Neil and
Penny Oleksiak) won the bronze medal.
Robert Finke of the United States won the gold medal in the
men's 1500m freestyle in a time of 14: 39.65 minutes. The silver medal was won
by Mykhailo Romanchuk of Ukraine who finished the race in 14: 40.66 minutes,
while Florian Wellbrock of Germany won the bronze medal in 14: 40.91 minutes.
