Marcell won the gold medal in the men's 100m final in 9.80 seconds, setting a new European record. With this victory, Marcell Jacobs went down in history as the 'only Italian to win a 100 meter event at the Olympics'.

Fred Kerley of the United States won the silver medal in 9.84 seconds, while Andre De Grasse of Canada won the bronze medal in 9.89 seconds.

Venezuela's Yulimar Rojas won the gold medal in the women's triple jump, breaking a 26 - year - old world record. Her record was 15.67 meters, the previous world record (15.50) set in 1995 by Inessa Kravets of Ukraine.

The silver medal was won by Patrícia Mamona of Portugal with a time of 15.01 meters and the bronze medal was won by Ana Peleteiro of Spain with a time of 14.87 meters.


Gianmarco Tamberi of Italy and Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar won the gold medal in the men's high jump with a distance of 2.37 meters. The bronze medal went to Maksim Nedasekau of Belarus, who also clocked 2.37 meters.

Lijiao Gong of China won the gold medal in the women's javelin throw with a time of 20.58 meters. Raven Saunders of the United States won the silver medal in the 19.79m and Valerie Adams of New Zealand won the bronze in the 19.62m.
