Although athletics has begun, China is still in the lead

The much awaited athletic events at the Tokyo Olympics began today (30). Here are some of the highlights of the day at the Olympic Stadium and other sports.

 

Athletics

 

Selemon Barega, an Ethiopian athlete in the men's 10,000 meters, won the first gold medal at the Olympics this year. His time to finish the event was 27: 43.22 minutes.

In the men's 10,000m, the world record was won by world record holder Joshua Cheptegei (27: 43.63 minutes) and the bronze medal was won by Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo (27: 43.88 minutes).

 

Swimming

 

South African athlete Tatjana Schoenmaker won the gold medal in the women's 200m breaststroke, setting her first singles world record at the Olympics this year.

She finished the event with a time of 2: 18.95 minutes, breaking the record set by Danish player Rikke Møller Pedersen (2: 19.11 minutes).

The silver and bronze medals in that event were won by American athletes Lilly King (2: 19.92) and Annie Lazor (2: 20.84).

Evgeny Rylov of the Russian Olympic Committee won the gold medal in the men's 200m breaststroke in 1: 53.27 minutes, setting an Olympic record.

 

Ryan Murphy of the United States won the silver medal in 1: 54.15 minutes and Luke Greenbank of Great Britain won the bronze medal in 1: 54.72 minutes.

Emma McKeon of Australia won the gold medal in the women's 100m freestyle. She finished the race in 51.96 seconds, setting an Olympic record.

The silver medal was won by Siobhan Bernadette Haughey of Hong Kong (52.27 seconds) and the bronze medal was won by Cate Campbell of Australia (52.52 seconds).

Wang Shun of China won the men's 200m Individual Medley event in 1: 55.00 minutes, breaking the Asian record.

Great Britain's Scott Duncan (1: 55.28) won the silver and Switzerland's Jérmy Desplanches (1: 56.17) won the bronze.

 

Table Tennis

Ma Long of China won the men's singles table tennis gold medal by defeating another Chinese player Fan Zhendong 4-2.

The bronze medal went to Dimitrij Ovtcharov of Germany, who defeated Chinese Taipei's Lin Yun-ju 4-3 in the bronze medal event.

By the end of the seventh day (30) of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, China had won the first place in the medal tally with 19 gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze medals.

 

Japan is in second place with 17 gold, 4 silver and 7 bronze medals, followed by the United States with 14 gold, 16 silver and 11 bronze medals.
