A ship is hijacked in the Gulf of Oman

An armed group has hijacked a Panama-flagged ship in the Gulf of Oman. Foreign media reported that the armed group was MV. The crew of the Asphalt Princess was ordered to sail to Iran.

 

It is not yet clear who hijacked the ship, but a naval watchdog suspects that the Iranian military may have hijacked it. The Iranian military has denied the allegations.

 

The incident took place while the ship was sailing towards the Strait of Hormuz. The incident comes less than a week after a drone strike on an Israeli oil tanker in Oman. The attack killed two British and Romanian guardsmen aboard the ship.
