Lake with pink water - Hillier Lake Australia

Lake with pink water - Hillier Lake

Australia is one of the most beautiful countries in the world and the sixth largest country in the world. Today we are going to talk about a lake in Australia. When we mention a lake, we are all reminded of a place full of blue water.

But not so in Lake Hillier, located in Australia. Its water is not blue. That water is pink. Lake Hillier is located on the island of Middle Island in the south of Western Australia.

Located close to the ocean on the island, the lake is about 600 meters long and 250 meters wide. The lake was first discovered by sailor Matthew Finder. This lake is not so beautiful when viewed from near, but from the top it is a very spectacular sight.

Scientists have done a lot of research on how pink the water is, but no definite cause has yet been found. However, many believe that the water is pink because of a species of algae that lives there. In 2013, tests were carried out and it was discovered that Dunaliella Salina, an algae species, lives in the lake water. In addition, another study revealed that about ten species of algae and bacteria live in the high-salt water of the lake, most of which are red or pink in color. Accordingly, the color of this water is due to the color of the algae that live here.

The salinity of this lake is very high and it has a salt concentration of 10 times that of seawater. What makes it special is that unlike the water on the other pink wheels, the water stays pink even when the water is drained. Also, the Dunaliella Salina algae that live here are not harmful to humans.

In the past, the lake was used for salt industry, but now it has been closed down and opened to tourism.
