The Minneapolis Police Department is the first and foremost law enforcement agency in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States.At the same time, it is the largest police department in Minnesota. 

Established in 1867, it is the second oldest police department in the State of Minnesota, 

after the St. Paul Police Department, which was established in 1854.

In the wake of the death of George Floyd, Minneapolis Council decide to discontinue Police Department

Nine of the 13 MP's said they would create a "new model of public safety" in a city that has been accused of enforcing racism.Mayor Jacob Frey had previously opposed the move.

On Sunday a statement read by nine MP's to Hundreds of protesters.

"We are here because here in Minneapolis and in cities across the United States 

it is clear that our existing system of policing and public safety is not keeping our communities safe,"
